Born in Belfast and based in East London, Tara Hakin is a fashion designer whose mission to celebrate and embolden the wearer’s body stems from her relentless experimentation, which assesses influences from subcultures and fashion iconography against a framework of women’s empowerment.

About the designer

Articulating her designs through an array of signature elements including expressive reds, bold prints, as well as sensuous wet-looks and intuitive drapes in asymmetric silhouettes, Hakin’s approach realises garments which walk the line between clothing and costume design.

This in turn yields fulfilling exhibits of Hakin’s conviction to prioritise the garment’s material encounter over its digital representation. Simultaneously, it subverts traditional imaginations of the female form to create striking, sculptural pieces. Hakin’s pieces have been seen on artists at the forefront of pop culture, including Kourtney Kardashian & Jorja Smith amongst others.

Tara Hakin is currently working collaboratively with musicians and creatives across disciplines while also conceiving her next collection.Hakin’s graduate collection ‘Asphyxiation’ engages sculpturally with an extensively diverse body of photographic research, citing key influences from photographers Daido Moriyama, Kazumi Kurigami and Hans Feurer.
